Ford Explorer Electric

Ford has finally unveiled its new electric midsize SUV, a tribute to the automaker’s best-selling Explorer. The all-electric Explorer, based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, is said to be available for less than $50,000 (€45,000).

The American automaker had a big year in 2022 after selling 61,575 EVs in the US and becoming the second largest EV maker in the states behind Tesla.

However, Ford would also like to expand its success abroad with a new generation of all-electric vehicles.

Ford partnered with Volkswagen in 2020 to take advantage of the German automaker’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) electric vehicle platform. The company plans to launch two all-electric vehicles and is helping to expand its position in Europe.

Ford Explorer EV

Ford would pay special attention to the exterior design of the Explorer EV to make it more aerodynamically efficient than the gasoline-powered Explorer. Aerodynamics directly affects power consumption, and a large SUV would need all the help it can get to balance its weight and dimensions.

In the US alone, Ford projects that by 2030, a third of the full-size pickup truck segment will be fully electric, which equates to more than 800,000 vehicles per year. The blue oval says it will capture 70% of the full-size, all-electric bus and van industry by 2030. It will equate to more than 300,000 vehicles per year. “I am pleased to announce that we will also offer a dedicated and scalable BEV architecture optimized for our next-generation full-size vans and utilities,” added Thai-Tang.Ford Explorer EV

LFP Batteries

Ford announced that it plans to use CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries with cell-to-pack technology in the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. To lower the price, the company can also use LFP batteries in select configurations of the Explorer EV. Iron-based batteries are cheaper, safer, and longer lasting than Lithium Cobalt Nickel Manganese Oxide batteries. However, they don’t perform quite the same in terms of range and weight. However, it could be a problem with larger, three-row models like the Explorer EV.

Ford Explorer SUV Electric

The new Ford Explorer will go on sale later this year. It is the second all-electric SUV from the Blue Oval and basically has a lot in common with the Volkswagen ID4. However, the exterior and interior design is completely unique.

Ford never disappoints its customers as it provides one of the best automation products. The American brand made its presence all over the globe, but EV automation is the new work. Electric Ford Explorer is all up to the standards of the brand which makes it unique.

Ford Explorer SUV Electric is the compact version of the car. The compact SUV is designed perfectly to balance aerodynamics with a beautiful design and powerful engine. However, Electric vehicles are the future of the automobile industry. The American brand launched its electric cars segment in Europe and making it one of the largest markets by 2030.

New Electric Ford Explorer Design

If you look closely at the new Ford Explorer you would never guess that it shares parts with the VW ID4 because it has a completely different design than that car.

The ID4 has a rather bland, bubble-like design, while the Explorer feels a lot more rugged. A special thanks to the upright front end and angled headlights. While there are some vents in the lower part of the bumper to cool the batteries, there’s no faux grille like the Audi Q4 e-tron.

The boxy design continues to the side and the black plastic trim hints at a more off-road design for the ID4. The Explorer also has some graphics on the C-pillar.New Electric Ford Explorer Design

Ford Explorer Batteries

Like the Volkswagen ID4, the new Ford Explorer will be available with a 52 kWh or 77 kWh battery. Rear-wheel drive models with the largest battery are said to have a range of 335 miles, while the model with the smallest battery should be able to get around 220 miles on one charge.

Electric Ford Explorer Interior Design

The interior is just as unique for Ford as the exterior, with just a few switches carried over from the Volkswagen ID4. You would never guess that the two cars are the same from the bottom.

As with many new SUVs, the dashboard is dominated by a huge touchscreen. It’s 14.6 inches wide and can slide up and down to tilt to your liking. There is also some hidden storage space behind the screen.

Opposite is a wireless charging pad for your phone, and the storage compartment in the center console is large enough for a laptop. The driver sits in front of a unique square steering wheel and digital driver display.

Conclusion

The all-electric Ford Explorer is a stylish and capable SUV that offers a long range and fast charging. It’s based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, which means it’s well-engineered and efficient. However, it’s only available in Europe, so US buyers will have to wait to get their hands on one.

Ford Explorer has a Long range of up to 330 miles with a Fast charging capability and a Stylish and modern design. However, the Well-equipped interior provides a comfortable ride with a bit of luxury. In addition, the major drawback of the Electric Ford Explorer is that it is available only in Europe.
